Mathematics

Mission Statement
The mission of the Vincennes University Mathematics program is to foster lifelong learners who appreciate and use the power of mathematics.  To accomplish this, the department utilizes classroom instruction supported by the use of innovative, hands-on technology and a proactive mathematics tutoring center.  Students will be equipped with the appropriate knowledge base of mathematical concepts and principles, mathematical technology, and mathematical reasoning skills necessary to support their goals.  Students will develop a mathematical point of view, inspiring them to appreciate and apply the accuracy and rigor offered by mathematics as they prepare to meet the challenges of productive participation in our ever-evolving, diverse culture.  The Mathematics program prepares students for their future careers or for transfer to a four-year institution. 

Program Learning Outcomes
Students who complete course work in the Mathematics program will be able to:

  • solve fundamental mathematical problems.
  • apply a variety of appropriate mathematical strategies to solve problems.
  • appreciate the importance of patterns and mathematical models.
  • interpret physical and social phenomena with a mathematical perspective.
