Chemistry

Mission Statement
The mission of the Vincennes University Chemistry program is to facilitate student learning of chemical concepts as they apply to general education and to the student's major.  Students will learn to work collaboratively to apply the scientific method for solving both practical problems in the laboratory and theoretical concepts in the classroom.  Students will gain a deeper understanding of chemistry concepts and learn to make analytical decisions at the level demanded for transferring students to complete advanced degrees in chemistry related majors and health care, as well as AS Transfer and AS Career/Tech students in health occupations, automotive industry, fire science and art.

Program Learning Outcomes
Students who complete course work in the Chemistry program will be able to:

  • apply the scientific method to validate existing chemical laws and theories.
  • apply an understanding of chemical reactions, models, and theories to critical thinking and problem solving.
  • practice ethical behavior in scientific endeavors.
  • evaluate the connections between chemical principles and real world applications.
  • solve problems using scientific technology or instrumentation.
