Family and Consumer Sciences

Mission Statement
The mission of the Vincennes University Family & Consumer Sciences program is to prepare students to be uniquely qualified to improve the quality of life for individuals, families, communities, and the environments in which they live and work.  Through a broad base of laboratory and course work, students develop knowledge, skills, attitudes, and behaviors needed to secure employment or pursue further study in child development, dietetics, fashion merchandising, interior design, and FACS Education.

Program Learning Outcomes
Students who complete course work in the Family & Consumer Sciences (FACS) program will be able to:

  • utilize knowledge of FACS to strengthen the personal well-being of individuals across the life span.
  • solve problems in diverse family, community and work environments.
  • manage resources to meet the material needs of individuals and families.
  • apply skills as providers and consumers of goods and services.
  • appreciate the value of FACS careers in improving the quality of human life.
  • apply critical thinking skills to family and consumer sciences topics and issues.
