Funeral Service Education

Mission Statement
The mission of the Vincennes University Funeral Service Education program is to enable students to address those measures of embalming, public health and ethical conduct required to uphold and foster the dignity of funeral services.  Students learn within lecture and laboratory settings in order to develop the proficiency and skills necessary for entry level placement in funeral service following an internship period required for state licensure. 

Program Learning Outcomes
Students who complete course work in the Funeral Service Education Program will be able to:  

  • Demonstrate an ability to perform basic embalming techniques.
  • Apply the cognitive knowledge in a practical setting working in an entry-level funeral service position.
  • Comprehend research in the field of funeral service.
  • Analyze the application of public health protection, eithical, and legal aspects as they apply to the profession of funeral service.
  • Apply in-class learning in a clinical setting.
  • Create solutions for real world situations.
