Athletic Training/Sports Medicine

Mission Statement
The mission of the Vincennes University Athletic Training / Sports Medicine program is to equip students with the knowledge and skills necessary toward becoming a certified athletic trainer.  Through classroom, laboratory, and co-curricular experiences, students will be able to identify the components of a quality athletic training career and possess a clear understanding of the knowledge and skills expected of a sophomore athletic training student.  The students will be prepared for transfer and acceptance into an athletic training major of a baccalaureate institution.

Program Learning Outcomes
Students who complete course work in the Athletic Training/Sports Medicine program will be able to:

  • understand the basic prevention, evaluation, treatment, and rehabilitation skills of an athletic trainer.
  • employ written, visual, kinesthetic, and oral presentation skills relative to athletic training topics and issues.
  • demonstrate practical skill competencies.
  • value the professional characteristics of an athletic trainer.
