Law Enforcement

Mission Statement
The mission of the Vincennes University Law Enforcement program is to develop procedural skills applicable to field oprations, criminal investigations and an understanding of the subsequent legal guidelines thereof.  The curriculum lecture, laboratory and field experiences train the law enforcement major to be proficient in law interpretation, evidence collection and analysis, and effective enforcement of laws for the civilian population in a local, state, and national capacity. Upon completion, students wil be prepared for employment as well as transfer opportunities.

Program Learning Outcomes
Students who complete course work in the Law Enforcement program will be able to:

  • understand levels and penalties of infractions, misdemeanors, and felonies. 
  • apply procedures in the investigation of criminal/traffic events.
  • analyze factors of an incident and select the best course of investigative action.
  • synthesize the components of the criminal justice system into one smooth process.
  • demonstrate knowledge of and enforcement tactics pertaining to federal state and local laws.
  • synthesize strategies for dealing with critical incidents.
