Horticulture Technology

Mission Statement
The mission of the Vincennes University Horticulture program is to provide students training in the fundamentals of plant science and landscape management, resulting in improved environmental, economic, and social sustainability.  Professional development of the student through curriculum and extra-curricular activities, including laboratory, in-field activities, and projects that promote citizenship, community involvement and global awareness will be a mainstay of the program.  Students will receive the necessary skills to become leaders with scientific and business aptitude that enhance analytical and critical thinking skills, resulting in a premier education. Graduates will find employment in the areas of landscape management, nursery and garden center management, estate management, business development, and golf and sports turf operations.

Program Learning Outcomes
Students who complete course work in the Horticulture program will be able to:

  • draft a landscape design plan.
  • develop management schedules and implement practices based on client and environmental needs.
  • demonstrate knowledge and appreciation of plants, their culture, diversity, and utilization.
  • recognize ethical and professional standards related to horticultural applications.
