Homeland Security and Public Safety

Mission Statement
The mission of the Vincennes University Homeland Security and Public Safety program is to develop leaders from diverse educational and professional backgrounds who have the knowledge, skills, and ability to effectively mitigate, respond to, and recover from a plethora of natural, man-caused and accidental hazards and critical incidents through labs, coursework, and community interaction.  Students who graduate from this program will be employed at local, state, and federal emergency management, law enforcement and other public service agencies.  In addition, students will be employed in the private sector in a variety of security-related positions.  Students will also be competitive for entrance into Master’s degree programs in a variety of disciplines, as well as law school.

Program Learning Outcomes
Students who complete course work in the Homeland Security and Public Safety program will be able to:

  • Demonstrate the ability to speak to the media and the general public.
  • Demonstrate the ability to properly document the ethics topic by writing a paper on the subject.
  • Create an emergency management response plan.
  • Compile an “emergency management after-action” report.
  • Analyze natural and man-made threats and potential terrorism risks.
