Emergency Medical Services (EMS)

Mission Statement
The mission of the Vincennes University Emergency Medical Services program is to provide students with the nationally accepted knowledge and skills to enter the workplace.  The goals of the EMS Program are to provide quality instruction that will meet nationally accepted standards and meet the needs of both students and their future employers.  This will be accomplished through didactic study and clinical internships in both hospitals and Emergency Medical Services providers.  The program shall produce students that are clinically proficient in required psychomotor skills, pathologies, and age specific assessments and complaints. 

Program Learning Outcomes
Students who complete course work in the Emergency Medical Services program will be able to:

  • Assess both trauma and medical patients in a timely and organized manner.
  • Identify conditions that require immediate paramedic intervention.
  • Prioritize patient care interventions based on their assessment of that patient.
  • Create and implement a treatment plan consistent with findings in their patient assessment.
  • Build team membership skills while assessing and treating a patient.
  • Develop team leadership skills.
