Communication

Mission Statement
The mission of the Vincennes University Communication program is to prepare twenty-first century graduates to communicate effectively in their always changing local and global communities. The communication courses are designed to encourage students to apply practical communication concepts and theories in their professional and social relationships. Students leave the courses with enhanced communication skills, problem-solving and analytical abilities. Students, regardless of major, educational, or professional goals, will learn to speak, listen, and analyze the role of effective communication in their academic and professional lives. Through classroom interactions which  apply foundational Communication theory, students gain appreciation for and develop their ability to communicate effectively in a diverse world.

Program Learning Outcomes
Students who complete course work in the Communication program will be able to:

  • demonstrate articulate expression through oral and written communication. 
  • compose written documents that demonstrate understanding and application of course content.
  • discriminate factors that influence effective and ineffective intercultural communication encounters.
  • understand that relationships take place in diverse socio-cultural contexts.
  • demonstrate confidence in communication situations.
